something new fellow fashionistas...

On Saturday, September 20, 2008, the Haddonfield Memorial High School Marching Colonials will host its first Marching Band Home Show & Competition in several years at Haddonfield Memorial High School.

Six high school marching bands will be performing, and as many as 1,500 people from throughout New Jersey are expected to attend.

Tickets are $8 for students, and $10 for adults.
This is not fashion related but it is an event for an organization that I have and am very active in. I'd love to see you there!

dressing for your body type

i see alot of people on forums asking for fashion advice so i decided to post the beginners guide to dressing for your body type. the key is to embrace what you have, ladies! not change it.

wider on the bottom
- keep detail away from the hip area (this would mean buttons, jacket hemlines and trim).
- don't cinch anything at the waist
- weartops and dresses that have a little volume in the sleeves, this will make you look more balanced

wider on the top
- if wide shoulders sound like you and you have average hips, your dressing options are plentiful, also see the tips for those with an hour glass shape.
- if the wideness of your upper torso is in the breast area, you are not alone. there are alot of women who have this problem.
- try drawing the eye downwards with longer jackets or skirts and bottoms with eye-catching details.

hourglass
- the hourglass shape is often described as the ideal female form, this doesn't mean you don't face some challenges
- be careful about addind bulk to either the top or bottom, you could throw off the balance.
- accentuate positive traits, like your waist. do this by Think shirt-waist dresses, sweater dresses, tailored jackets and tucked in tops.

slender
- try to add dimension to your profile by wearing clothes that have movement and that are unstructured.
- horizontal details are a straight body types best friend. this can mean belts, prints, hemlines, etc.

wide from top to bottom
- this is a healthy body shape for many women but outside influence often leads us to believe otherwise
- pick one part of the body to emphasize. avoid the middle though
- monochromatic colors are best. they are slimmming and look good on pretty much everyone.
- avoid clothes with details such as pleats and jackets that stop anywhere from your belly buttom to your hips.
- accesorize! wearing scarves and certain jewelry can draw the eye to the top or center of the torso

for all body types
-color, fit, and style is very important
-pick one physical trait that you're proud of. emphasize it, but don't over do it!

hope this helped, everyone!

team picks for project runway (season 5)

so project runway started 4 weeks ago and i don't have cable so i've been catching up on the challenges and garments on my trusty laptop. here are the rickrack teams picks...

t is crazy for leanne.

"She started fashion at a young age which then reflected to become her life purpose. It’s good to know she has been doing this most of her life so I know she has most of the experience of being a fashion designer. Since most of her designs are influenced by her five-plus years as a graphic designer it reflects on her fashion, making styles that are simple and sophisticated but yet stylish. Styles don’t always have to be flamboyant and vibrant but can also be nice and simple. When you have a nice and simple outfit though, you have to work it and that’s what Leanne’s styles can do. Although her styles are innovative, simple, and sophisticated it makes her styles ambiguously unique. With her line in 'Leanimal', currently being sold in Portland, New York, and Seattle, she continues to persue her career in fashion. She already has a line in Portland, New York, and Seattle she sounds the most eligible to be the next Fashion Runway Designer."

n hearts blayne.

“I love blayne mostly because his clothes are pretty and full of personality. He is my favorite. Color is very important to me and man does blayne hit it every time. I was especially impressed by his garments for the grass is always greener and rings of glory episodes. I would wear that pink dress for the rest of my life. suede is also a favorite of mine but i just kind of like blayne more for some reason.”

j has yet to declare who she loves and

team member b is away. have fun in the poconos dearie.

leave us a comment! who do you favor/want to win this season?

men in cardigans?

so my buddy (and editor) j and i were having a conversation... why don't alot of guys care about how they dress and if they did what should they wear? needless to say n and j don't have the same taste. i chose a picture of a guy in a simple white button down and blue jeans while j opted for... a man in a cardigan. did you know that leading retailers have reported a 1000% increase in sales of men’s cardigans over the past year? don't get me wrong i love cardigans. on females. we continued the conversation and it didn't take long for me to whip out the old "fine, i'll do a blog entry about it" card. so now i need to know from you guys (and girls. of course!). what do you think of the man-igan?
n
Update:
in Js defense... she says that she likes cardigans on guys, but mostly only male models and indie college boys. She agree most boys can not pull them off.

best of teens choice 08

Just finished watching the teen choice awards and boy was this a crazy year for red carpet fashion. it was hard to tell if the stars were aiming for a more casual feel or more grown up looks. attire ranged from flaming red sneakers to who knows how high heels. so here it is. my top and bottom five for the teen choice awards 2008...i will be posting them seperatly because both will take up a large amount of space i`m sure...

have you ever had to find a needle in a hay stack? it's crazy hard. lucky for me finding my top 5 best dressed from the 2008 teens choice awards was not difficult. there were not alot of quality dresses this year and while i was researching i found that alot of other bloggers don't have the same feelings as i do on this. oh well. here goes.

5 Sophia Bush

i am not usually a huge fan of florals but when i saw this dress i didn't even have a chance to think "ew. florals." the dress had just the right elements of pretty and sexy to make it a great choice for already gorgeous, sophia bush. my only complaint would be that the slit was a little bit too high cut. the dress may have been better off just being shorter. but sophis works it and looks great.

4 Natasha Bedingfield

natasha bedingfields ensemble for the awards ceremony was very chic and very age appropriate. she's 26, which isn't old at all but she's not a teenager anymore and shows a level of sophistication. the a line skirt is adorable and i am obsessed with this blue. it reminds me off the dress that rhianna wore to the 2008 grammy's. look is timeless and the execution is worth recognition. good job natasha.

3 Vanessa Hugens (actress/singer)

hsm star vanessa hugens surprised me. when i saw this dress at first i thought that maybe it was too boring, too blah. but it's nice to see someone not cover in glitter and sequins. just simple and clean. the colors may be seen as dull by many other bloggers but i think that the style of the dress makes up for the lack of bold colors. it was a breath of fresh air in a blue carpet that seemed swathed in bad dresses. lucky for vanessa though, a dress like this will never go out of style.

2 Kristen Bell (actress)

kristen bell looked stellar in pink and nude. i color is amazing on her and the skirt fits like a dream. kristen looked young and hip without looking trashy. bravo! why don't you give our buddy kim kardashian some pointers? maybe you can teach her what burma is while you're at it.

1 Britanny Snow (Actress)

i love, love, love britanny snows dress and i think that she looks amazing. the pattern is interesting but not outrageous. on top of it she gets extra points for her makeup which is subtle and natural. don't even get me started on her shoes. i love how the red pops. the only thing i would consider changing would be to maybe pair larger or just more noticable earrings with this oufit. but i`m just crazy about the entire ensemble.

good for you britanny!
